If you're a born again Christian you will have at some point had problems fighting the flesh. Whether it's anger rising up, selfishness, lust etc. For me it's usually selfishness of some type and irritability!
I try to fast on a regular basis in order to bring my flesh into subjection. Kind of like a spiritual tune-up. I think it's important that every believer "checks themselves" frequently because we war daily with the desires of our flesh, which is contrary to what the Spirit wants to accomplish in us!
As born again believers, this doesn't mean that we want to do evil, we are new creatures in Christ, so we want to do good! But many times the flesh hinders us from accomplishing the good that we want to do....
I heard a saying recently, "the body is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master!". How true that is! So brothers and sisters, I urge you to keep in touch with Christ daily by abiding in Him. Christ said if you abide in Him, He will abide in you. This means time spent in His word daily, prayer and fasting.
"If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples." -John 15:7,8
